A histopathologic study has been performed for 45 cases of adrenal gland tumors, which obtained in the Department of Pathology, college of Medicine, Kyung Hee university during the period of 12 years from January, 1980 to December, 1991.
@ES The results as follows ;
@EN 1. In the 45 adrenal gland tumors, 30 cases were cortical tumor and 15 cases medullary tumor, which comprising 66.7% and 33.3%, respectively.
2. In the cortical tumors, cortical adenomas were 25 cases, 55. 6% of total adrenal tumors and cortical carcinomas 5 cases, 11.1%. The medullary tumors were pheochromocytomas, neuroblastomas, ganglioneuromas, and ganglioneuroblastomas, each
presenting
15.6%, 6.7%, and 4.4% of total cases.
3. Age distribution of cortical tumors was between 5 years to 46 years and its mean age was 35.8 years. The cortical adenomas were common in third and fourth decades and carcinomas in first and second decades, and its mean age was 37.2 years and
28,4
years, respectively.
4. 76% of adenomas and 80% of carcinomas were female, and 64% of adenomas and 60% of carcinomas were right side.
5. Associated endocrine symptoms are primary hyperaldosteronism (14 cases, 56%), Cushing's syndrome (9 cases, 36%), virilism (1 case, 4%), no endocrine symptoms (1 case, 4%) in adenomas and Cushing's syndrome (4 cases, 80%) and 1 case (20%) was
non-functioning in cortical carcinomas.
6. The pheochromocytomas were developed between 22 years to 66 years and its mean age is 45.7 years. The male to female ratio was 0.75 : 1 and the left to right ratio was 1.3:1.
7. The mean age of neuroblastoma patients was 4.5 years.
8. The ganglioneuroblastomas were confirmed by second biopsy 1 and 2 years after the diagnosis of heuroblastoma and their age were 7 years in all.
9. The ganglioneuromas were distributed between 42 years to 58 years and its mean age were 49 years.
